Disaster has come once again. Another friend of mine has had sever damage to their home due to fire. Karen was at work
when she received a call that her house was on fire. Please see the page below for more information.

It has been awhile since I updated anything on the website. But a tradegy of a close friend deems I
make a change. Friends of mine lost their house and everything they own in a fire last night. I am starting a web page
to make a list of needed items and give thanks to those that have helped. My wife and I are just getting started with the web
page, so check back occasionally for updates.

I am in the process of retiring my NT4 server. I have moved the BBS and Database to a new
Windows 2003 Server machine. If you see problems over the next day or two, it wouldn't hurt to send me a
message. I should have things back to normal by Sunday evening.

Summer is quickly drawing to an end. Activity is picking up on several of the games. WebChess and Funeral Quest have been quite
popular. LORD, Tradewars and Ambroshia remain very popular.
I have upgraded to the latest version of WebChes (0.9.0) that fixes several bugs.
I have also added the standard header and footer to each of the pages.
This makes the game look like the rest of the site.
There is still no activity in the message area, but with sites like yahoo groups around, it is difficult to expect much
activity there.
I'm in the process of upgrading the machines that run everything. I'm upgrading my Windows NT4 Server to W2K3 and my
Linux Redhat 7.2 to SUSE Linux 9.1. The switch will start happening in the next month or two.

I'm releasing a bbsGateway program. If you run a telnet bbs and need to be able to telnet to another game or
site, this program is for you. Works with programs like Trade Wars Game Server (TWGS), Star Ship Traders or telnet to another
system. Logs usage in a text file or to a SQL Server database. See Other Local Links / Downloads below on this page.
The telnet games are still active. Even as we approach summer (which is typically a slow time for bbsing), I'm getting 15
different users playing games every day. Over the last 30 days, 30 people have played games 10 times or more.
Remember today is Mother's Day...

I finally got my Amateur Radio Extra License. After spending what seems like months learning the code,
I passed Element 1. I've been spending some time chasing DX on the HF bands. It's been exciting to make contacts outside
of the United States. Now I have to create a QSL card so I can get them shipped.
My next project is to get my HF antenna up higher. It is currently about 15 feet at the center. I hope to get the center up
around 40 feet this weekend.
I've also been checking into Fidonet. I used to get the Fidonet echos in the early 90's, before the Internet came of age.
There is not program that I can find to toss the FTN packets into phpBB, so I am writing my own. So far I am able to import
messages and link them by subject line. The program works pretty well, but I still have a few more things to fix. I can then
create the export of messages and send out packets. I've been using Squish to toss the mail and I just import each msg file.
Hopefully, when I am done I will have a Fidonet ActiveX control and a phpBB ActiveX control. People should be able to use
the Fidonet control and write their own BBS control to import and export messages. We'll see how it goes.
